Patterned Sky

Picture by my friend Peter Herman

Hauge Log Church - 1852
Mount Horeb, Wisconsin

There is a spirit
Kernel wrapped in memory
Wandering the open plains
Searching for its past

Born from an archaic
Lost, almost spiritual structure
Whispering hints
Hewn from Norwegian wood

In the dawn of the sunset
Wedged between the clouds
And pastel rays
Floating on the waning breeze

Caught between a past
And yesterday’s winter
Stark branches profile
An elusive destination

Many an hour
The memory swings to and fro
A maligned zephyr
Pushed to a moment of consciousness

And then, forgotten in the twilight.

Beautiful poem. I like the "memory swings to and fro" just like the branches do :-) And I like the dreamy sound of your poem. It goes perfect with the picture, too.

Hello Rob, Glad to see you at OSI after long time. How are you?

This is a very beautiful poem. Silence floats in this poem through out. I specially liked "Pushed to a moment of consciousness" It adds life to silence.
