Antelope Canyon

These pictures are from a side trip in northern Arizona this past week to Lower Antelope Canyon. I took several hundred pictures while crawling around in this narrow, sinuous desert canyon. An incredible place to spend a few hours with a Navajo guide. None of the photos are retouched.

Lower Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA

Subtle light
Wrapped in
Dusty moon beams

Dream world
Carved from
Red-brown hues

Tan, parched shoes
Trudged on weathered
Rippled textures

Winding path
Drifting sands
Sculptured smoothness

Ageless pathway
Serpent’s trail
Barren heat

Ancient chant
Awakened spirits
Deepening echoes

Painted Desert
Deserted sea
Nature's etching

Navajo dream
Rising smoke
Subtle memories

The poem was a chant that evoked the mystery and wonder of creation and the nature of story as well as the nature of love.

Brilliant. Stunning. Spectacular.

There were several times during our trek that the Navajo guide broke into impromptu Indian chanting/song while we were down in the depths of the canyon. I cannot adequately express the emotions of this experience in addition to the spectacular surroundings.

I truly appreciate all your comments. Thank you.

Well, if a visit to a place that gorgeous doesn't inspire a great poem, I don't what will.

Great poem - absolutely beautiful photographs.

otherworldly sort of place. rock like crumpled fabrics.
smokey and painted.

That place was amazing. All of the rock is a reddish sandstone. The differences in color in the pictures are due to lighting, shadows, and camera exposure control. From chocolate, to red, to tan, to white colors. I want to go back!

Thanks to all for your comments. Rob.
